On-line help One of the most helpful features of the hp 40g CAS is the on-line help provided by the SYNTAX button (SHIFT 2). Pressing SYNTAX will display the menu shown to the right. You can use the up or down arrow keys to scroll through this list but it is very extensive and it is far quicker to press the button corresponding to the first letter of the function on which you require information. For example, if you want help on the NEXTPRIME function then press the ÷ button (letter N) to jump to the first function beginning with N. The help screen can be a little crowded, as you can see to the right, but generally contains an extremely useful summary. An example is always given and pressing will cause this example to be pasted into the editing screen. There will often be up to three cross-references to other functions. Pressing , , or will take you to the help screens for these functions. Pressing will take you back to the editing screen without any action, while pressing will take you back to the SYNTAX menu. It is strongly suggested that you spend some valuable time going carefully through this collection of help pages. They will give you an excellent feel for the capabilities of the CAS. 328
