The amount of main memory that your computer has depends on the particular model that you have. To see how much main memory is installed, right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop. Then click Properties in the drop-down menu. Why Add More Main By adding more memory you can significantly improve the computer's performance. If your computer does not have Memory? enough memory, it uses hard disk space as virtual memory which allows large applications to execute even though the physical memory is not sufficient. Virtual memory, however, is approximately 200 times slower than main memory. The amount of main memory your computer requires depends on the operating system and the applications you use. You may need more memory if you use memory-hungry applications (for example, image processing and desktop publishing applications) or if you run several applications at the same time. How Much Main Your computer is capable of supporting up to 192 MB of main memory (3 x 64 MB), using three memory module sockets Memory Can I Add? on the system board. Main memory is available in modules of 16 MB, 32 MB, and 64 MB non-ECC SDRAMs. Will Adding Memory If your computer has sufficient memory, installing extra memory will not improve performance.
