expired ink cartridges To protect against deteriorated print quality and damage to your printer, the printer monitors the age of the ink cartridges. When a cartridge has reached its expiration date, the cartridge stops working and the printer ceases to operate until the cartridge is replaced. If installed prior to the "Must Install Before" date (see the back of the ink cartridge packaging) hp no. 14 ink cartridges will expire 18 months after being installed in the printer. If installed after the "Must Install Before" date, the cartridges will expire in less than 18 months. The expiration period is the maximum time in which an ink cartridge can be used, it is not a warranty period. It is recommended that you do not stockpile ink cartridges. To see the expiration date for an installed ink cartridge, print a diagnostic page. Caution! To avoid damaging the printer, remove an ink cartridge or a printhead only when a replacement is available. If an ink cartridge or a printhead is removed without being replaced: • Close the print carriage and the printer doors. • Replace the ink cartridge or printhead within 24 hours. • Never remove an ink cartridge and a printhead at the same time. 101
