Description Heat sink (for use only on computer models equipped with an Nvidia N17E GPU) Heat sink (for use only on computer models equipped with an Nvidia N17P Generation 1 GPU) Spare part number 929559-001 929457-001 IMPORTANT: Make special note of each screw and screw lock size and location during removal and replacement Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 36), and then remove the following components: a. Hinge covers (see Hinge covers on page 45). b. System support brackets (see System support brackets on page 46). c. Fans (see Fans on page 49). Remove the heat sink: 1. Following the 1 through 8 sequence stamped into the heat sink, loosen the eight captive Phillips screws (1) that secure the heat sink to the system board. Component replacement procedures 53

Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.
Remove the battery (see

), and then remove the following components:
a.

Remove the heat sink:
1.
Following the 1 through 8 sequence stamped into the heat sink, loosen the eight captive Phillips screws

that secure the heat sink to the system board.
