Connecting to the NAS target device on Windows, None no authentication, Create User

Page 29 highlights

• None (no authentication) Setting authentication to None provides a simple CIFS server configuration that allows for the creation of shares with no authentication. Any user or computer can mount and access the shares created on the HP StoreOnce Backup system with this setting. • User authentication Setting authentication to User provides a method of securing the CIFS shares so that they can be accessed only by specified users local to the CIFS Server. Once the server has been set to User mode, it is possible to create new local users by selecting Create User. See "Configuring user authentication" (page 30) for detailed instructions. • Active Directory (AD) authentication Setting authentication to AD allows the CIFS server to join a Windows Active Directory domain. Access to individual CIFS shares is then managed from the Windows domain controller server which can provide the names of domain users that will have access. See Configuring CIFS Server with AD and CIFS Share with AD domain users (page 31) for detailed instructions. 4. Make changes, as required, and click Update. You will be advised that if you update the CIFS Server settings, any backup or restore jobs in progress for it will fail. 5. Click Continue (or Cancel). NOTE: When switching authentication modes the user must log out and back into the Windows client before the new authentication settings will work. 6. You are now ready to create CIFS NAS shares, see Creating a CIFS share (page 37). Connecting to the NAS target device on Windows To access the NAS CIFS target device from a Windows server on the network, enter in Windows Explorer: / or /. CIFS Server tab 29
