INSTALLATION Network Connections The Ethernet Interface has different network connection options available upon purchase. The base Ethernet Interface model provides an RJ45 connector for 10Base-T (UTP) networks. A 10Base2 (BNC) version of the adapter is also available. Printer Management Utility The Printer Management Utility is a versatile an dynamic program that allows you to remotely organize all printers on the network in a single database. You can download software and printer settings from a host computer with a single mouse click. Or you can use a virtual operator panel to configure printers in the same room or around the world. The PMU software can be obtained from the IBM World Wide Web site at: http://www.printers.ibm.com Follow the on-screen instructions for downloading and installing the software. Connecting to the Network DANGER: Do not connect or disconnect any communication port, teleport, attachment connector, or power cord during an electrical storm. Power off the print and disconnect the power cord before connecting or disconnecting communication port, teleport, or attachment cable connector. To attach the Ethernet Interface to the network as illustrated in Figure 1-2, you will need to plug the network cable into the Ethernet Interface connector. Watch the LEDs in the rear of the printer as they cycle through the power on self test. When the test is complete, the STAT led is flashing. Introduction 1-5

Connecting to the Network
