connection to the switch. Some tests require the ports to be connected by external cables, to allow diagnostics to verify the serializer/deserializer interface, SFP, and cable. All diagnostic tests are run at link speeds of 1, 2, and 4 Gbit/sec, depending on the speed of the link being tested. Note: Diagnostic tests can temporarily lock the transmit and receive speed of the links during diagnostic testing. For information about specific diagnostic tests, refer to the Brocade Fabric OS Administrator's Guide. Installing, removing, and testing SFPs If your switch did not come with installed SFP modules (transceivers), or you are replacing older ones, follow the instructions in "Installing an SFP" on page 29 to install the SFPs. Follow the instructions in "Removing SFP modules" on page 32 to replace faulty SFPs, or to remove SFPs that are no longer needed in the switch. SFPs are supplied by several different manufacturers and have different designs. Some SFPs have plastic tabs, as shown in Figure 10, and others have wire bales, as shown in Figure 11. Follow the instructions appropriate to the type of SFP you are installing. Note: The illustrations of the SFPs and cable connectors in this section are not oriented in the same direction that they are installed in the switch. Figure 10. SFP plastic tab variety Figure 11.
