Page 48 highlights

I/O Port Control You can control input/output functions by disabling input/output ports (such as the serial and parallel ports). To access the settings for these features, start the Configuration/Setup Utility program and select Devices and I/O Ports. For more information on using the Configuration/Setup Utility program, see "Using the Configuration/Setup Utility Program" on page 37. Enhanced Security You can enable enhanced security, which locks the administrator password and startup (boot) sequence in a security EEPROM where they are not affected by the loss of battery power. For more information, see "Enhanced Security" on page 50. Asset Information Protection An asset information EEPROM, when used in conjunction with other security features, can protect stored asset information (such as serial numbers for your microprocessor, hard disk drives, diskette drive, and riser card). The information stored in this EEPROM can be used to manage and protect your serialization data. The Desktop Management Interface (DMI) Browser software (included on the Ready-to-Configure CD) can be used to update these serial numbers if you make changes and additions to your computer. The DMI software can also be used to view the asset information. Chassis-Intrusion Detector You can enable the chassis-intrusion detector feature to prevent your PC from starting the operating system if the cover is removed. To enable this feature, you must: Set an administrator password. (Refer to "Administrator Password" on page 48 for information and instructions on setting and using an administrator password.) Enable enhanced security. (Refer to "Enabling and Disabling Enhanced Security" on page 52 for instructions.) If the chassis-intrusion detector feature is enabled and the cover is removed from your PC, a switch moves inside the computer, and an indicator appears on the screen showing that chassis intrusion has taken place. The computer will not start the operating system until the correct administrator password is typed. 34 Using Your Personal Computer

I/O Port Control
You can control input/output functions by disabling input/output ports (such as
the serial and parallel ports).
To access the settings for these features, start the
Configuration/Setup Utility program and select Devices and I/O Ports.
For more
information on using the Configuration/Setup Utility program, see “Using the
Configuration/Setup Utility Program” on page
37.
Enhanced Security
You can enable enhanced security, which locks the administrator password and
startup (boot) sequence in a security EEPROM where they are not affected by the
loss of battery power.
For more information, see “Enhanced Security” on page
50.
Asset Information Protection
An asset information EEPROM, when used in conjunction with other security
features, can protect stored asset information (such as serial numbers for your
microprocessor, hard disk drives, diskette drive, and riser card).
The information
stored in this EEPROM can be used to manage and protect your serialization data.
The Desktop Management Interface (DMI) Browser software (included on the
Ready-to-Configure
CD) can be used to update these serial numbers if you make
changes and additions to your computer.
The DMI software can also be used to
view the asset information.
Chassis-Intrusion Detector
You can enable the chassis-intrusion detector feature to prevent your PC from
starting the operating system if the cover is removed.
To enable this feature, you
must:
±
Set an administrator password.
(Refer to “Administrator Password” on page
48
for information and instructions on setting and using an administrator
password.)
±
Enable enhanced security.
(Refer to “Enabling and Disabling Enhanced
Security” on page
52 for instructions.)
If the chassis-intrusion detector feature is enabled and the cover is removed from
your PC, a switch moves inside the computer, and an indicator appears on the
screen showing that chassis intrusion has taken place.
The computer will not start
the operating system until the correct administrator password is typed.
