Infrared Port (Optional) Your computer supports infrared communication. With infrared technology, wireless communication is possible between infrared-enabled devices. In order for the infrared function to work, you must purchase and install a 115 Kb infrared module and a shielded cable/D-shell connector assembly. These components can be purchased from IBM or an IBM reseller as a single option package (referred to as the 4.0 Mbit IR Transceiver Option). The infrared module provides a link of up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) at a rate of 115 kilobits-per-second (Kbps). For further information on installing an infrared option package, refer to Understanding Your Personal Computer (an online publication) and the information that comes with the infrared package. Integrated Video Graphics Controller The system board of your computer contains a high-performance, high-resolution, Matrox MGA-1164SG2 3-D video graphics controller with 2 MB of video memory and support for Matrox memory and multimedia upgrade modules. (Note that you can install a maximum of one upgrade module, which means that the memory and multimedia upgrades cannot be used in conjunction with each other.) The system board of your PC also contains a VESA feature connector that supports special function video adapters, such as the ReelMagic TV tuner and MPEG decoder adapters. Integrated Audio Controller The stereo audio controller on the system board in your computer provides all the digital audio and analog mixing functions required for recording and playing high-quality sound on your PC. The controller supports Sound Blaster Pro, Adlib, and Microsoft Windows Sound System applications. Integrated Ethernet Controller Your computer has an integrated Intel 10/100 Mbit, PCI Ethernet controller and an RJ-45 connector that provide a high-performance network connection. The Ethernet controller is a Plug and Play device that has built-in support for Wake on LAN and a viewable MAC (media access control) address for your computer. (See "System-Management Settings" on page 52 for more information.) Ethernet device drivers are provided on the Ready-to-Configure CD that comes with your computer. 2 Matrox changed the video controller markings from MGA-1064SG-H to MGA-1164SG-A. Although the markings are different, the video controller functions the same. Chapter 1. Your IBM Personal Computer 5
