This section provides instructions on how to replace the system board. CAUTION: The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the computer and wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool before opening the computer cover. To replace the system board: 1. Open the computer cover. See "Opening the computer cover" on page 71. 2. Take notes of the location of all the cable connectors on the system board and then disconnect all the cables. See "Locating parts on the system board" on page 70. 3. Press the two side tabs inward and then pivot the system board as shown to release the system board from the chassis. Figure 17. Releasing the system board 4. Place the system board on a clean and flat surface. 5. Remove the heat sink from the system board. See "Replacing the heat sink" on page 77. 6. Remove the memory modules from the failing system board. See "Replacing a memory module" on page 73. 7. Remove the adapter card from the failing system board. See "Replacing the adapter card" on page 74. 8. Remove the battery from the failing system board. See "Replacing the battery" on page 72. 9. Remove the microprocessor from the failing system board. See "Replacing the microprocessor" on page 78. 10. Remove the screws that secure the failing system board to the protective cover. 11. Lift the failing system board off the cover. 12. Position the new system board so that the screw holes are aligned with the mounting studs on the cover. 13. Install the screws to secure the new system board to the protective cover. 14. 14. Install the memory modules, adapter card, battery, and microprocessor that you removed from the
failing system board to the new system board.
