Using printer menus Menu selection PS SmartSwitch Purpose Values Configures the printer so it On* automatically switches to PostScript emulation when a print job received through the USB port requires it, regardless of the default printer language. Off NPA Mode USB Buffer Specifies whether the printer performs the special processing required for bidirectional communication, following the conventions defined in the Network Printing Alliance (NPA) Protocol. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the printer. On Off Auto* Configures the size of the USB input buffer. Note: Changing the USB Buffer menu item automatically resets the printer. Disabled Auto* 3K to maximum size allowed Job Buffering Temporarily stores jobs on the Off* printer hard disk before printing. On Auto Mac Binary PS Configures the printer to Off process Macintosh binary PostScript print jobs. On Auto* Printer examines data on the USB interface and selects PostScript emulation if the data indicates that is the required printer language. Printer does not examine the incoming data. The printer uses PCL emulation to process the job if PCL SmartSwitch is On, or it uses the default printer language specified in the Setup Menu if PCL SmartSwitch is Off. Printer performs NPA processing. If data is not in NPA format, it is rejected as bad data. Printer does not perform NPA processing. Printer examines the data to determine the format and then processes it appropriately. Job buffering is disabled. Any jobs already buffered on the disk are printed before normal processing of incoming jobs resumes. Printer automatically calculates the USB Buffer size (recommended setting). User specifies the USB Buffer size. The maximum size depends on the amount of memory in the printer, the size of the other link buffers, and whether Resource Save is set to On or Off. To maximize the range for the USB Buffer size, disable or reduce the size of the parallel, serial, and network buffers. Does not buffer print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs only if the printer is busy processing data from another input port. Printer processes raw binary PostScript print jobs from computers using the Macintosh operating system. Note: This setting often causes Windows print jobs to fail. Printer filters PostScript print jobs using standard protocol. Printer processes print jobs from computers using either Windows or Macintosh operating systems. 41
