Using printer menus Menu selection Serial Buffer Job Buffering Serial Protocol Robust XON Purpose Values Configures the size of the serial input buffer. Note: Changing the Serial Buffer menu item automatically resets the printer. Disabled Auto* 3K to maximum size allowed Temporarily stores jobs on the Off* printer hard disk before printing. On Auto Selects the hardware and DTR* software handshaking values for the serial interface. DTR/DSR XON/XOFF XON/XOFF/DTR XONXOFF/DTRDSR Determines whether the printer Off* communicates availability to the computer. This menu item only applies to On the serial port if Serial Protocol is set to XON/XOFF. Disables job buffering. Any jobs already buffered on the disk are printed before normal processing of incoming jobs resumes. Printer automatically calculates the Serial Buffer size (recommended setting). User specifies the Serial Buffer size. The maximum size depends on the amount of memory in the printer, the size of the other link buffers, and whether Resource Save is set to On or Off. To maximize the range for the Serial Buffer size, disable or reduce the size of the parallel and USB buffers. Does not buffer print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs only if the printer is busy processing data from another input port. Hardware handshaking. Hardware handshaking. Software handshaking. Combined hardware and software handshaking. Combined hardware and software handshaking. Printer waits to receive data from the computer. Printer sends a continuous stream of XONs to the host computer to indicate that the serial port is ready to receive more data. 45
