Writing to CD/DVD 65 Usage Precautions When an external CD/DVD drive has been connected z Do not turn the CD/DVD drive power off on this computer when writing to a disc in an external CD/DVD drive. Turning the power off may result in a malfunction, such as an interruption in the external CD/DVD drive operation. Using DVD-RAM z Formatting must be executed to write a file to a DVD-RAM. It is possible to write a file to a formatted DVD-RAM in the same way as writing a file to a floppy disk or hard disk. Format type There are six types of DVD-RAM formats, as shown below. We recommend that you choose the format type depending on the application. Format FAT32 UDF1.02 UDF1.50 UDF2.00/2.01 UDF2.5 Feature This format is supported by Windows 95 (OSR2) / 98 / Me / 2000 / XP / Vista. DVD-RAM discs in FAT32 format cannot be used on Windows 95 (other than OSR2) / Windows NT. This format is supported by Windows 98 / Me / 2000 / XP / Vista, and compatible with the Video mode of DVD-ROM / DVD-R / DVD-RW / +R / +RW. Standard format for DVD-RAM. Data with large file sizes (video or audio data) can be written at high speed. We recommend this format when using DVD-RAM for storing data. This format is used for DVD video recorders conforming to "Video Recording Standards" as established by the DVD Forum, or for PC recording software conforming to the same standards. This format is supported by Windows Vista, and is used for Blu-ray recorders or PC recording software conforming to "Video Recording Standards" as established by the Blu-ray Disc Association. This format cannot be used for DVD recorders conforming to "Video Recording Standards" as established by the DVD Forum, or for PC recording software conforming to the same standards.
