Advanced Features Program AE Mode In Program AE mode, the camera automatically determines the shutter speed and aperture, and you can set more detailed menu settings in comparison with the Auto mode ([). 1 Set the Mode Dial to "]", then power on camera. 2 Set any desired menu items. Note: • The available mode is described below the function title in each page. You can set the functions indicated with "]" in that description. 3 Press j or k to set the exposure value (EV). • You can select 9 steps from D2.0EV to H2.0EV. Program AE mode icon About Exposure Value Automatic exposure works by selecting an average value of all the different tones in the shot. If two different objects have an equal amount of dark and light parts, they will have the same exposure value. However, when the scene is dominated by dark shadows or light objects, the AE system does not work properly, and may fail to select the best exposure. For example, if you capture a bride in white wedding dress, the image becomes darker than it actually looks. The camera tries to neutralize the light and dark portions and the dress becomes gray while skin tone becomes too dark. +0.5 E V Exposure value 4 Press the Shutter button half- way down to focus on the subject. • The camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed and aperture. 5 Press the Shutter button fully to capture the image. Note: • AE is an abbreviation for Auto Exposure. Advanced Features 41
