Troubleshooting The printout is unsatisfactory. s Meaningless characters and symbols are printed. Normal printout Meaningless characters Troubleshooting Cause Solution The previous print job was cancelled before it was completed. ¬ Switch the PC and printer off and then on again. Then print again. You are using the wrong printer driver. ¬ Look at the printer name displayed in the application software Print dialog box and check that "Canon BJC-8000" is selected. (page 7) The printer and the PC are not properly connected. ¬ Ensure that the power cord and printer cable are securely connected. Printer cable fault. Switching device or external buffer fault. ¬ Use another printer cable. Contact the cable supplier for more information on cable faults. Make sure you are using an IEEE-compatible parallel cable. ¬ Disconnect the switching device or external buffer and print with the printer directly connected to the PC. If you can then print normally, the fault is probably in the switching device or external buffer. Consult the switching device or external buffer supplier. The printer port is set to ECP mode. ¬ Cancel ECP mode. Open the printer driver Printer Properties window and click Custom Setting... on the Maintenance tab. Remove the check from the Set printer to ECP mode checkbox and click Send. There is a problem with the printed document file or with the functions used by the file. ¬ Rebuild the document and print it again. If there is no problem with the new document, the original file was probably faulty. If the problem recurs with the new file, call for service. 35
