Using the Passphrase function Note: If the function is disabled, a power-on password and a hard disk password can contain only 12 characters and a supervisor password can contain only 8 characters, all alphanumeric; you cannot use the spacebar. To set a power-on password, hard disk passwords, and a supervisor password, refer to Access IBM. Typing passwords If the following icon appears, type a power-on password or a supervisor password If the following icon appears, type a user hard disk password. If you want to type a master hard disk password, do the following: 1. Press the F1 key. The icon changes to this: 2. Now type the master hard disk password. If the following icon appears, type a supervisor password. Notes: 1. You can use the Backspace key if you press the wrong key while you are typing your password. 2. If you set a hard disk password on a computer on which the Passphrase function is enabled, and you then remove the hard disk drive from the computer and install it on a computer that does not have the Passphrase function, the computer cannot accept the hard disk password.
