j Replacing Batteries 11 Turn the camera off and make sure that the power-on lamp and the monitor have gone out before removing or inserting batteries. j Additional Precautions Regarding Batteries • Read and follow the warnings and cautions on pages ii-iii and 105 of this man- ual. • Do not combine old and new batteries or batteries of different makes or types. • Batteries with the following defects cannot be used: Preparation for Shooting Batteries with peeling Batteries with insulation that does not cover the area around the negative terminal. Batteries with a flat negative terminal j Battery Type To improve battery performance, select the type of battery currently inserted in the camera in the setup menu. The default setting is [Alkaline]. When any other type of battery is used, turn the camera on and change the setting (c 101). k Alkaline Batteries Performance of alkaline batteries may vary greatly depending on the manufacturer. Choose a reliable brand. k Alternative Power Resources To power the camera continuously for extended periods, use an AC Adapter EH-65A (available separately from Nikon) (c 102). Do not, under any circumstances, use another make or model of AC adapter. Failure to observe this precaution could result in overheating or in damage to the camera. k Power Saving Function If no operations are performed for about five seconds, the monitor will dim to save power. Using any of the camera controls will reactivate the display. If no operations are performed for about 30 seconds, the monitor will turn off; after a further three minutes, the camera will turn off automatically.

To improve battery performance, select the type of battery currently inserted in

Performance of alkaline batteries may vary greatly depending on the manufac-
turer. Choose a reliable brand.
