Making a hem with a hemstitch seam This seam provides a perfect edge finish to hemstitching work on table cloths, napkins or towels. • Programs No. 56 and 57. • Iron the hem over twice in the desired width. • Pull one or more of the threads just above the hem. • Using one of the above mentioned programs, sew along the pulled threads. When doing this. the needle must enter the right side of the hem and bunch the pulled threads to the left Traditional hemstitching • Programs No. 55 and 58. • Using "single pattern", sew the program onto a piece of waste fabric. • Count the threads on the inside of the pattern to determine the pattern width. • Pull 1 -3 threads from the fabric to the right and left of the pattern width. • Overstitch the remaining threads with the selected program. When you do this, the needle must enter the pulled threads on both sides close to the edges. 115
