E Chain tensioning (fig. 52) Turn the rear wheel slowly until you find the position in which the chain is most taut. With the motorcycle on the side stand, push the chain upwards with your finger at the centre line of the swingarm. The lower section of the chain must be able to travel (fig. 43): 25 ÷ 27 mm. To adjust the tension, slacken the nut (1, fig. 44) on the wheel hub, tighten screw (2) clockwise by the same amount on both sides of the swingarm to increase the tension or unscrew to reduce it. In the latter case, you will need to push the wheel forward. Important An incorrectly tensioned chain will lead to accelerated wear of the transmission components. Check that the reference marks on both sides of the swingarm are lined up. This indicates perfect wheel alignment. Grease the thread of wheel hub nut (1) with SHELL Retinax HDX2 and tighten to 72 Nm. Grease with SHELL Alvania R3 the thread of the adjuster screws (2) and tighten to 8 Nm. = = 25 ÷ 27 mm fig. 52 . 1 2 62 fig. 52a A
