2. Serial ATA connectors (7-pin SATA1-5) These connectors are for the Serial ATA signal cables for Serial ATA hard disk and optical disk drives. If you install SATA hard disk drives to the SATA1-5 connectors, you can create a RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, or JBOD configuration through the onboard nForce® 980a SLI controller. These connectors are set to [IDE Mode] by default. If you intend to create a Serial ATA RAID set using these connectors, set the SATA Mode select item in the BIOS to [RAID Mode]. Chapter 2 • The SATA 5 connector and external SATA port support AHCI mode and RAID mode only. Ensure to install the AHCI driver or RAID driver in the bundled support DVD before connecting devices to the connectors. Otherwise, the devices will not work. • Due to chipset limitation, when you set any of the SATA ports to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode simultaneously. • You must install Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or later version before using Serial ATA hard disk drives. The Serial ATA RAID feature is available only if you are using Windows® XP SP2 or later version. • Due to chipset limitation, port multipliers are not supported by the onboard SATA connectors and the external SATA port.
