Make file Use this setting to create a file of a specific size. Getting to a desired file size is a key aim when encoding to media, such as CD or DVD, where there is limited file space. This can be achieved by some simple calculations based on the running time of the video and the desired bit rate. The bitrate is the amount of data, or bits per second, on average that the encoder should use when encoding a video clip. The trade-off is between file size and image quality. A video clip encoded at a higher bitrate will produce a higher quality video with a much larger file size. The same video clip encoded at a lower bitrate will produce a lower quality video with a smaller file size. The goal is to reach a suitable compromise. The DivX codec will encode videos at bitrates of between 0.024 kbps and 4000 kbps, so this is one of the determining constraints.
