8 ANSWERING MACHINE Your phone includes a telephone answering machine that records unanswered calls when it is on. The answering machine can store up to 59 messages within the maximum recording time of approximately 30 minutes and each message can be up to 3 minutes long. As well as recording incoming messages, you can record memos for other users of your phone. When the answering machine is turned ON, calls are answered after the set RING DELAY and the caller can then leave you a message if ANSWER & REC is selected, or hear an outgoing announcement if ANSWER ONLY is selected, but not be able to leave you a message. When the answering machine is turned OFF, calls are answered after 10 rings and the ANSWER ONLY message is played to the caller and they will not be able to leave a message. If the answering machine memory is full, MEMORY FULL! displays on the Handset and F flashes on the base, and you will have to delete some messages before any new ones can be recorded. Some answering machine functions can be operated from the base, including playing messages and turning the answering machine on or off, but more functions can be controlled and set up using the handset menu functions. 8.1 Turning on/off the answering machine 8.1.1 Using the telephone base Press on the telephone base to turn the answering system on or off. The Ans on/off button will light when the answering system is on. 8.1.2 Using a cordless handset 1. Press . 2. Press to select ANS SYSTEM and then press . 3. Press again to show ANSWER MODE. 4. Press to select ANSWER & REC. or ANSWER ONLY or OFF, and then press . Selecting ANSWER & REC or ANSWER ONLY will turn on the answering system in their respective modes. 8.2 New message indicator When there are new messages on the answering system, the number of new messages flashes in the message window on the telephone base, and the tape icon flashes and XX NEW MESSAGE displays on the handset screen. 32
