Conventional memory The amount of memory in the computer below 1MB that is available to MS-DOS and application programs-usually 640KB. Also called base memory or main memory. Coprocessor An optional integrated circuit (chip) that assists the CPU in performing certain numeric calculations faster. See also 387SX. Copy-protected program A type of program that cannot be copied. Some copy-protected programs require you to leave the program diskette in the diskette drive while you are using it. Some also require the computer to be running at low speed instead of high speed. CPU Central Processing Unit. The integrated circuit (chip) responsible for integrating program instructions, performing calculations, and controlling all input and output operations. CPU speed The speed at which the CPU can execute commands. The ActionNote can run at 25 or 33 MHz (Turbo) or 8 MHz (Normal). Also called clock speed, execution speed, or operating speed. CRT Cathode Ray Tube. A type of video display, such as a color monitor or a TV screen. 6 Glossary
