Symptom Maintenance or consumable operation A nozzle check pattern indicates clogged nozzles. Clean the print head. Print quality has declined. Printed media is faint, or contains horizontal stripes or uneven colors. Even after cleaning the print head several times, print quality has declined. Printed media is smudged. Perform the following as necessary: • Clean around the print head. • Clean the wiper and its attachment point. • Clean the anti-drying caps. Ink, paper particles, or lint from the media accumulate on the platen, pressure rollers, or media holding plates. Clean the platen, pressure rollers, and media holding plates as necessary. Ink adheres to the absorber on the back of the wiper cleaner. Replace the wiper and the wiper cleaner at the same time. Printed media is faint, smudged, or incomplete and the wiper is torn or deteriorated. The media holding plates are deformed or damaged. Replace the media holding plates.
