Populating DIMM Sockets There are two DIMM sockets on the system board: XMM1 (black) and XMM3 (white) with one socket per channel. XMM1 operates in memory channel A. XMM3 operates in memory channel B. A memory module must occupy the black XMM1 socket. NOTE: For systems configured with more than 3 GB of memory and a 32-bit operating system, all memory may not be available due to system resource requirements. Addressing memory above 4 GB requires a 64-bit operating system. Total Memory 1 GB (single channel mode) 2 GB (dual channel mode) 4 GB (dual channel mode) 8 GB (dual channel mode) Channel A (black) 1 GB 1 GB 2 GB 4 GB Socket Channel B (white) 1 GB 2 GB 4 GB The system will automatically operate in single channel mode, dual channel mode, or flex mode, depending on how the DIMMs are installed. ● The system will operate in single channel mode if the DIMM sockets are populated in one channel only. ● The system will operate in a higher-performing dual channel mode if the total memory capacity of the DIMM in Channel A is equal to the total memory capacity of the DIMM in Channel B. ● The system will operate in flex mode if the total memory capacity of the DIMM in Channel A is not equal to the total memory capacity of the DIMM in Channel B. In flex mode, the channel populated with the least amount of memory describes the total amount of memory assigned to dual channel and the remainder is assigned to single channel. Populating DIMM Sockets
There are two DIMM sockets on the system board: XMM1 (black) and XMM3 (white) with one socket
