A local user with the same username and password must be created on the media server that will be using the D2D CIFS share. The backup application services must be configured to run as the local user (how this is configured varies by backup application). The best practice when using User authentication is to create a ―backup‖ user account on both the D2D and all application media servers. This user should then be used to log in to the media server computer and to administer the backup application. All shares that need to be accessed by the media servers should use the same ―backup‖ user account, including any shares on other D2D devices or NAS systems. Tips for configuring AD authentication D2D products support configuration in a multi-domain tree forest but do not support multi-forest domain topologies. In order to join a domain: 1. Connect to the D2D Web Management Interface and navigate to the NAS - CIFS Server page. 2. Click Edit and choose AD from the drop-down menu. 3. Provide the name of the domain that you wish to join e.g. ―mydomain.local‖ 4. Click Update. If the domain controller is found, a pop-up box will request credentials of a user with permission to join the domain. (Note that joining or leaving the domain will result in failure of any backup or restore operations that are currently running.) 5. Provide credentials (username and password) of a domain user that has permission to add computers to the domain and select Register. In most cases, as part of joining the AD Domain, the DNS server will be automatically updated to provide a Host(A) record and Pointer(PTR) entry. If these are not configured to occur automatically, entries can be added manually as follows: 39
