Top cover NOTE: The top cover spare part kit includes the TouchPad and TouchPad cable and the TouchPad button board and TouchPad button board cable. Description In dark umber finish In steel gray finish Spare part number 665998-001 665999-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 47), and then remove the following components: ● Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 48) ● Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 51) ● Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 59) When replacing the top cover, be sure that the following components are removed from the defective top cover and installed on the replacement top cover: ● Fingerprint reader board and cable (see Fingerprint reader board on page 66) ● Power button board and cable (see Power button board on page 68) ● Display lid switch board and cable (see Display lid switch board on page 70) Remove the top cover: 1. Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.
Remove the battery (see

), and then remove the following components:

When replacing the top cover, be sure that the following components are removed from the defective
