Refer to Figure 6-12, but instead of removing the cables you will be replacing or installing them. You should also adjust the cables to that they are neatly placed within the system and free from possible damage by the workstation's edges or by other system components. 6. Replace the workstation's cover. Refer to page 144. 7. Verify the configuration of your Adaptec 29160 SCSI card. Press Ctrl A when the boot-up screen appears to enter the SCSISelect(TM) Utility. replacing a SCSI card
To replace/install a SCSI card, follow the procedure in this section.
1.
Remove the workstation cover. Refer to page 142.
2.
Locate the accessory card slot. See Figure 6-2.
3.
Remove the accessory cards’ retainer screw and clip. See Figure 6-9.
4. Take the SCSI card out of its anti-static package and insert the card
into either PCI card slot 1, 2 or 3. See Figure 6-13.
5. Connect the SCSI cable and status light cable to the card. Refer to
Figure 6-12, but instead of removing the cables you will be replacing
or installing them. You should also adjust the cables to that they are
neatly placed within the system and free from possible damage by the
workstation’s edges or by other system components.
6.
Replace the workstation’s cover. Refer to page 144.
7. Verify the configuration of your Adaptec 29160 SCSI card. Press
Ctrl A
when the boot-up screen appears to enter the SCSISelect(TM) Utility.
You will see a message that shows you the SCSI cards that have been
installed and their slot numbers.
installing the external 68-pin SCSI connector and cable
The external 68-pin SCSI connector and cable (or SCSI connector
through the remainder of this section) is an
optional
component that
allows you to connect single-ended SCSI devices to your workstation.
This external SCSI connector can be ordered from this web site:
www.adaptec.com.
Before you install this component, you need to read
the section “SCSI connector considerations.”
SCSI connector considerations
This SCSI connector is used with single-ended SCSI devices that are
connected
externally
to
the
workstation.
Note
that
the
external
connector that is part of the Adaptec 29160 card is a low-voltage
differential SCSI connector and it operates at a faster speed than the
SCSI connector you are installing. Therefore, you should not connect a
single-ended SCSI device to the Adaptec card’s external connector, this
would reduce the performance of the low-voltage differential SCSI bus.
This scenario requires that you pay attention the connector you are
using.
