Baseboard management controller Complete the following steps to remove the baseboard management controller. This component is located in the rear of the server, on the same side as the power supply. Note: v Read "Installation guidelines" on page 25. v Read the safety notices at "Safety information" on page 101. v Read "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 25. 1. Turn off the server and any attached devices. 2. Disconnect power cords and external cables from the back of the server. 3. Remove the server from the rack. 4. Remove the cover (see "Removing the cover and bezel" on page 27). 5. Locate the SO-DIMM connector (J16) on the system board (see "System-board option connectors" on page 67). 6. Disengage the two retaining clips that secure the baseboard management controller to the system board. 7. Gently grasp the baseboard management controller and pull it until it comes loose from the SO-DIMM connector (J16) on the system board. Plastic standoff 8. Gently pull up on the baseboard management controller until it disengages from the plastic standoffs. If the standoffs come away from the system board with the baseboard management controller, gently pull them out of the baseboard management controller and push them back into their apertures on the system board. steps
to
remove
the
baseboard
management
controller.
This
component
is
located
in
the
rear
of
the
server,
on
the

1.
Turn
off
the
server
and
any
attached
devices.
2.
Disconnect
power
cords
and
external
cables
from
the
back
of
the
server.
3.
Remove
the
server
from
the
rack.
4.
Remove
the
cover
(see
“Removing
the
cover
and
bezel”
on
page
27).
5.
Locate
the
SO-DIMM
connector
(J16)
on
the
system
board
(see
“System-board
option
connectors”
on
page
67).
6.
Disengage
the
two
retaining
clips
that
secure
the
baseboard
management
controller
to
the
system
board.
7.
Gently
grasp
the
baseboard
management
controller
and
pull
it
until
it
comes
loose
from
the
SO-DIMM
connector
(J16)
on
the
system
board.
Plastic
standoff
8.
Gently
pull
up
on
the
baseboard
management
controller
until
it
disengages
from
the
plastic
standoffs.
If
the
standoffs
come
away
from
the
system
board
with
the
baseboard
management
controller,
gently
pull
them
out
of
the
baseboard
management
controller
and
push
them
back
into
their
apertures
on
the
system
board.
Note:
You
can
also
gently
pinch
the
top
of
each
standoff
using
needle-nose
pliers
and
then
pull
the
baseboard
management
controller
away.
