POST error messages The following table provides an abbreviated list of the error messages that might appear during POST. See the "Diagnostics" in the BladeCenter HS40 Type 8839 Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide on the IBM BladeCenter Documentation CD or the IBM BladeCenter T Documentation CD that comes with your blade server for more information about the POST error messages. Table 5. Abbreviated list of POST error messages POST message Failing device or problem found Timer error (0000) The real-time clock battery has failed. CMOS date/time not set (0012) The time of day has not been set. Processor cache mismatch Microprocessor mismatch error (196) Suggested action Replace the battery or call for service. Set the date and time. Install microprocessors of identical type. Processor speed mismatch error (198) Processor models are different (8196) CPU speed mismatch (8197) Non-matching or missing DIMMs, user has not installed DIMMs correctly, or DIMM disabled by POST or user (289) A failing DIMM was disabled. Keyboard/interface error (004C) Keyboard and keyboard controller Make sure that the DIMMs are supported by your blade server and that they are installed correctly. v Make sure that the keyboard/mouse/video select button LED on the front of the blade server is lit, indicating that the blade server is connected to the shared BladeCenter keyboard. v Make sure that the keyboard cable is connected to the BladeCenter unit and that nothing is resting on the keyboard keys. ServerGuide problems The following table lists problem symptoms and suggested solutions. Table 6.
