Preparations Connecting the Cables The machine has the connectors for connection with either network or directly to a computer. Connecting the Network Cable To connect the machine to a network, use an network cable (10Base-T or 100Base-TX). 1 Turn the power switch located on the rear side of the machine off ({), and remove the power cord from the outlet. 2 Connect the network cable to the network interface connector at the rear side of the machine. 3 Connect the other end of the network cable to your network device (hub). 4 Make network settings on the operating panel. See page 3-10. Connecting the Parallel or USB Cable To connect the machine directly to your computer, use either a parallel cable or USB cable. Notes • Use the USB cable that complies with Revision 2.0 of USB standard with a rectangular Type A plug and a square Type B plug. • The connecting the USB cable should be shielded and not be longer than 5 meters (16 feet). 1 Turn the power switch located on the rear side of the machine off ({), remove the power cord from the outlet and turn the power off to your computer. 3-7

Connecting the Cables
The machine has the connectors for connection with either network or directly to a computer.
Connecting the Network Cable
