NETGEAR 8800 User Manual Default Accounts By default, the switch is configured with two accounts, as shown in Table 9. Table 9. Default Accounts Account Name admin user Access Level This user can access and change all manageable parameters. However, the user may not delete all admin accounts. This user can view (but not change) all manageable parameters, with the following exceptions: • This user cannot view the user account database. • This user cannot view the SNMP community strings. To change the password on the default account, see Applying a Password to the Default Account on page 45. Creating a Management Account The switch can have a total of 16 management accounts. You can use the default names (admin and user), or you can create new names and passwords for the accounts. Passwords can have a minimum of 0 characters and a maximum of 32 characters. To create a new account: 1. Log in to the switch as admin. 2. At the password prompt, press [Return], or enter the password that you have configured for the admin account. 3. Add a new user by using the following command: create account [admin | user] {encrypted } If you do not specify a password or the keyword "encrypted", you are prompted for one. If you do not want a password associated with the specified account, press [Enter] twice. Viewing Accounts To view the accounts that have been created, you must have administrator privileges. To see the accounts, use the following command: show accounts Deleting an Account To delete an account, you must have administrator privileges.
