1To ProgramUsingIntro-Play: One easy way toprogram a sequence combines intro-play with the programming features. Press INTRO to begin intro-play. While the selected tracks introsegment is playing, pressSET. Dirt.dust, scratchesorwarpingcanaffectacompact disc and result in noise or other malfunctions. Please take precautions to avoid this. Abnormalsoundsmaybeheard frominsidetheunit ifa defective disc is played.Such discs should not beused. Donotdirectly touchthelaser pickupin the CD traywith your fingers. If the lens surface of the pickup becomes dirty or damaged, correct CD playback will become impossible. To protect the laser pickup from damage. be sure to keep the top cover closed. Condensation: In some instances, if condensation forms inside the CDplayer. water dropletson thepickuplens or unit maycausemalfunctions. Thismightoccurwhen: 1. Theunitisinan initially coldroom thatis warmed up rapidly. 2. Theunitemoved froma cold locationtoa warmlocation. 3. Theunit isusedina room fullof steamormoisture. Dependingonambient conditions.suchcondensationwill normallyevaporateif theunit'spower is switchedonandleft on for about anhour.If thereis any indication that condensation may have formed, remove the disc and leave the system turned on for about one hour before use. Using External Components As many as four external components can be connected to theMusicCenter(seeFig. 16). Theremotecontrol, however, willnot commandany externalcomponentoperations,but • canselectamccg themand maintain volumeandmute control for each zone individually. The instructions below refer to heremotecontrol. However, the sameresults canbe achieved by using the Music Center control panel. Note:Certainexternalunits,suchasa tapeplayerorCD changer, canbeoperatedusing theremotecontrol. Please a'ee yourBosedealer tolearn whichmodelsareincluded. Tape: To use an external tape recorder (analog audiocassette, analogopenreel,or digitalaudio tape), follow theinstructionsin "TheConnections" section. Tohear tape playback,pressTAPE on theremotecontrol. Either zone(or bolh)may listen to the tapeoutput. Torecord,play the sourceyouwishtotapeinZone 1, with the recorder set for record.( Zone 1and thetaperecorder always have the same Signal.) Auxiliary:Anothercomponent,suchas anoutboardCD player,amulti-disc CD changer,orasecond tapedeck may beused with the AUX inputs. Tips
on
Using
Compact
Discs

discs

Any
other
type
of
disc
cannot
be
played.
Dirt.
dust,
scratches
or
warping
can
affect
a
compact
disc
and
result
in
noise
or
other
malfunctions.
Please
take
precau-
tions
to
avoid
this.
Abnormal
sounds
maybe
heard
from
inside
the
unit
if
a
de-
fective
disc
is
played.
Such
discs
should
not
be
used.
Do
not
directly
touch
the
laser
pickup
in
the
CD
tray
with
your
fingers.
If
the
lens
surface
of
the
pickup
becomes
dirty
or
damaged,
correct
CD
playback
will
become
impossible.
To
protect
the
laser
pickup
from
damage.
be
sure
to
keep
the
top
cover

Condensation:
In
some
instances,
if
condensation
forms
inside
the
CD
player.
water
droplets
on
the
pickup
lens
or
unit
may
cause
malfunctions.
This
might
occur
when:
1.
The
unit
is
in
an
initially
cold
room
that
is
warmed
up
rapidly.
2.
The
unite
moved
from
a
cold
location
to
a
warm
location.
3.
The
unit
is
used
in
a
room
full
of
steam
or
moisture.
Depending
on
ambient
conditions.
such
condensation
will
normally
evaporate
if
the
unit's
power
is
switched
on
and
left
on
for
about
an
hour.
If
there
is
any
indication
that
condensa-
tion
may
have
formed,
remove
the
disc
and
leave
the
system
turned
on
for
about
one
hour
before
use.
Using
External
Components
As
many
as
four
external
components
can
be
connected
to
the
Music
Center
(see
Fig.
16).
The
remote
control,
however,
will
not
command
any
external
component
operations,
but
can
select
amccg
them
and
maintain
volume
and
mute
con-
trol
for
each
zone
individually.
The
instructions
below
refer
to
he
remote
control.
However,
the
same
results
can
be
achieved
by
using
the
Music
Center
control
panel.
Note:
Certain
external
units,
suchas
a
tape
player
or
CD
changer,
can
be
operated
using
the
remote
control.
Please

Tape:
To
use
an
external
tape
recorder
(analog
audiocas-
sette,
analog
open
reel,
or
digital
audio
tape),
follow
the
in-
structions
in
"The
Connections"

on
the
remote
control.
Either
zone
(or
bolh)may
listen
to
the
tape
output.
To
record,
play
the
source
you
wish
to
tape
in
Zone
1,
with
the
recorder
set
for
record.

and
the
tape
recorder

have
the
same
Signal.)
Video:
To
listen
to
audio
sound
from
a
video
component
or
system
connected
to the
video
sound
inputs,
press
VIDEO
on
the
remote
control.
Either
zone
(or
both)
may
listen
to
the
video
output.
Note:
You
may
use
the
Lifestyle"'
music
system
as
part

surround
sound
system.
Connect
the
main
video
sound
source
to
the
VIDEO
inputs,
and
the
surround
sound
proces-
soes
outputs
to
the
AIJX
inputs.
Zone
1
outputs
must
be
con-•
netted
to
powered
speakers
suitably
located
for
the
Front
channels.
Zone
2ouOuts
must
be
connected
to
powered
speakers
located
for
the
surround
(rear}
channels.
To
hear
surround
sound,
select
VIDEO
for
Zone
1;
selectAUX
for
Zone
2.
Adjust
the
volume
tor
each
zone
independently
to
achieve
desired
fron0ear
balance.
Auxiliary:
Another
component,
such
as
an
outboard
CD
player,
a
multi
-disc
CD
changer,
or
a
second
tape
deck
may
be
used
with
the AUX
inputs.
To
listen
loan
auxiliary
compo-
nent,
press
AUX
on
the
remote
control.
Either
zone
(or
both)
may
listen
to
an
auxiliary
component.
Turntable:
To
use
a
turntable
with
the
Lifestyle
music
cen-
ter,
a
phono
preamplifier
is
required.
Consult
your

dealer
to
determine
which
model
of
preamplifier
is
appropri-
ate
for
your
use.
