If you still cannot find the problem, please take your sewing machine into the shop where you purchased it, or your nearest authorized Brother dealer for repair. Handwheel Doesn't Rotate Thread Gets Tangled on Wrong Side of Fabric Thread is getting tangled. Re-thread machine. Clean bobbin case and under needle plate. Oil the machine. 14-17.26 Upper threading is not threaded correctly. Re-thread machine properly. 15 Needle is not attached correctly. Reattach. 11 Upper thread tension is too low. Increase tension. 18 Needle is bent, or tip is dull. Change needle. 11 Bobbin case may be scratched. Remove needle plate and check bobbin case. ✽ If you find it difficult to turn the handwheel, you may also see "Sewing Machine Doesn't Run" in "Trouble Shooting". When the Safety Device is Operating If a problem persists even after performing the measures in "Sewing Machine Doesn't Run" in "Trouble Shooting", the machine's safety device may be operating. Symptom The machine does not operate. The indicator lamp blinked for a few seconds. The machine stopped and will not operate. The indicator lamp continuously blinks slowly. Cause/solution The machine is locked because the thread is tangled, etc. Turn off the power, remove the tangled thread, and clean the machine. (page 26) Foot controller replacement or machine repair is required. Contact your authorized Brother dealer or the nearest Brother authorized service center. ✽ The machine will not operate for approximately 1 second immediately after the power is turned on or after the foot controller pin jack is inserted or removed. 28

When the Safety Device is Operating
If a problem persists even after performing the measures in “Sewing Machine Doesn’t Run” in “Trouble Shooting”,
the machine’s safety device may be operating.
Symptom
Cause/solution
The machine does not operate.
The indicator lamp blinked for a few seconds.
The machine is locked because the thread is tangled, etc. Turn off the power,
remove the tangled thread, and clean the machine. (page 26)
