Upper Threading Pulling up the bobbin thread When making gathers or before free motion quilting, first pull up the bobbin thread as described below. Refer to "Threading the upper thread" (page B-21) to a thread the machine with the upper thread and thread the needle. Follow steps d to f "Installing the bobbin" (page Bb 18) for installing the bobbin to insert the bobbin into the bobbin case. Pass the bobbin thread through the slot. c Do not cut the thread with the cutter. Reattach the bobbin cover. g Insert the tab in the lower-left corner of the bobbin cover, and then lightly press down on the right side. 2 1 GETTING READY B While lightly holding the upper thread with your left d hand, press (Needle position button) twice to lower and then raise the needle. → The bobbin thread is looped around the upper thread and can be pulled up. Carefully pull the upper thread upward to pull out the e end of the bobbin thread. Pull up the bobbin thread, pass it under the presser f foot and pull it about 10 cm (4 inches) toward the back of the machine, making it even with the upper thread. Basic operations B-25
