If the machine answers a voice call and pseudo/double-rings for you to take over, you can take the call at an extension telephone by pressing the Telephone Answer Code #51. (See F/T Ring Time (Fax/Tel mode only) on page 30.) Using an external telephone (Connected to the EXT. jack of the machine) 6 If you answer a fax call at the external telephone connected to the EXT jack of the machine, you can make the machine receive the fax by pressing Start and choosing Receive. If the machine answers a voice call and pseudo/double-rings for you to take over, you can take the call at the external telephone by pressing Hook. If you answer a call and no one is on the line: 6 You should assume that you're receiving a manual fax. Press l51 and wait for the chirp or until the LCD shows Receiving, and then hang up. Note You can also use the Easy Receive feature to make your machine automatically take the call. (See Easy Receive on page 31.) Using a non-Brother cordless external handset 6 If your non-Brother cordless telephone is connected to the EXT. jack of the machine (see Connecting an external or extension telephone on page 36) and you typically carry the cordless handset elsewhere, it is easier to answer calls during the Ring Delay. If you let the machine answer first, you will have to go to the machine so you can press Hook to transfer the call to the cordless handset. 6 37
