5. Verify that no changes to the storage system configuration are in progress. For example, you should not be in the process of creating a virtual disk. Configuration changes should not be made within 48 hours before beginning the upgrade. NOTE: • The leveling process does not impact the upgrade. If leveling is in progress, the upgrade can be performed. The leveling will be suspended during the upgrade and resumed when the upgrade is complete. • Make sure you suspend any processes or applications that may change the storage system configuration. • Proactive event notification can be used to alert you if a critical event occurs during the 48 hours before the upgrade. Step 2. Configure User-Initiated Service Mode (UISM) Estimated time to complete: 10-15 minutes To avoid generating unnecessary events and alerts during the upgrade, enable UISM in HP Command View EVA (requires version 9.3 or later). This will be used by HP Insight Remote Support to indicate the EVA is in service mode. 1. Open HP Command View EVA and select the storage system for which you want to enable UISM. 2. Select System options. 3. Select Configure User-Initiated Service Mode (UISM) under the Service section. The Configuring User-Initiated Service Mode window opens. 4. In the Reason box, enter text to indicate that you are updating EVA controller software. NOTE: This is a free form field. 5. If desired, verify and change the amount of time you expect the EVA to remain in service mode. The default is 30 minutes. 6. Select Start service mode to notify HP Insight Remote Support that the EVA will be in service mode. If you are running an earlier version of HP Command View EVA, complete the following steps to disable Remote Support software: 1. On the HP Command View EVA management server, open a command window. 2. Enter the following commands to stop Remote Support Software: C:\>net stop desta_service 3. Enter exit.
