Step 3 Focus and Shoot 1 Focus Press the shutter-release button halfway to set focus and exposure. If the camera is able to focus on the subject in the focus area at the center of the frame, the focus (p) indicator and focus area will be displayed in green. If they blink red, the camera was unable to focus. Change the composition and try again. The focus area is not displayed when digital zoom is in effect. 12 2 Take the picture Press the shutter release button the rest of the way down to take the picture. Note that the flash may fire if the subject is poorly lit. Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode l Shutter-Release Button The camera features a two-stage shutter-release button. To set focus and exposure, press the shutter-release button halfway, stopping when you feel resistance. Focus and exposure lock while the shutter-release button is held in this position. To release the shutter and take a picture, press the shutter-release button the rest of the way down.
