Turning the Camera On and Off 1 Power switch Q button Getting Started Turning the Camera On in Capture Mode 1 Press the power switch. The LCD monitor turns on and the lens extends. The camera turns on in A mode (Capture mode). If [Language/ ] screen or [Date Adjust] screen appears when you turn on the camera, follow the procedures on p.28 to select the display language and/or set current date and time. 2 Press the power switch again. The LCD monitor turns off, the lens closes, and the camera turns off. Checking the Memory Card The memory card is checked automatically when the camera turns on. + appears on the LCD monitor when there is no SD Memory Card inserted in the camera. In this case, images and sound files will be saved in the built-in memory. r appears instead of a when the write-protect switch on the SD Memory Card is in the locked position. Images and sound cannot be recorded when the write-protect switch is locked. This can also happen when using the camera for the first time; however this is not a malfunction. Turn the camera off, wait a minute and then turn the camera on again to reset the camera. The date and time and other settings may also be reset. Follow the procedure on p.29 to set these settings again. 26

Press the power switch.
The LCD monitor turns on and the lens extends. The camera turns on
