26 CHAPTER 3: CABLING COREBUILDER 9400 PORTS Cabling the Console Port The Console port provides access for either local or remote administration. For local administration of the CoreBuilder 9400, the Console port provides an RS-232 connection to a local terminal or workstation that runs a terminal emulation program and acts as the console. For remote administration, the Console port provides the means to connect an external modem, which you can use to establish a connection between your current Administration Console session and the modem port. The Console port has a male 9-pin, D-type connector. See "Console Port Pin Assignments" next for pin-out information. To cable the Console port: 1 Attach the female DB-9 cable connector to the Console port's male connector. See Figure 10. 2 Attach the other end of the serial cable to your terminal or workstation. You can also remotely access the system through any Gigabit Ethernet port using Telnet. See the Command Reference Guide. To use the Administration Console to configure the system for management access through the Console port, see Chapter 5. Cabling the Console Port
The Console port provides access for either local or
remote administration.
For local administration of the CoreBuilder 9400, the
Console port provides an RS-232 connection to a
local terminal or workstation that runs a terminal
emulation program and acts as the console.
For remote administration, the Console port provides
the means to connect an external modem, which you
can use to establish a connection between your
current Administration Console session and the
modem port.
The Console port has a male 9-pin, D-type connector.
See “Console Port Pin Assignments” next for pin-out
information.
To cable the Console port:
1
Attach the female DB-9 cable connector to the
Console port’s male connector. See Figure 10.
2
Attach the other end of the serial cable to your
terminal or workstation.
You can also remotely access the system through any
Gigabit Ethernet port using Telnet. See the
Command
Reference Guide
.
To use the Administration Console to configure the
system for management access through the Console
port, see Chapter 5.
