Initialization and Administrative Procedures 2-5 Appliance Initialization The TaskSmart W2200 appliance server is easy to set up for the first time. The TaskSmart Appliance Server Utility CD, included with the appliance packaging, is used to find the appliance on the network and start the online configuration application. Use the following steps to initialize the TaskSmart W2200 appliance server: Environments with a DHCP Server 1. Connect the TaskSmart W2200 appliance server and the Windows client workstation to your network. The simplest setup is with both systems on the same subnet. However, if the TaskSmart W2200 appliance server has connectivity and can get a temporary IP address from a DHCP server, then it does not matter where the client and server are located. IMPORTANT: If the appliance and the client workstation are not on the same subnet, and a firewall is in the path between the different subnets, then the firewall must allow traffic on IP ports 21, 22, 80, 2301, and 3201. 2. If the systems are on different subnets and the appliance can get a temporary address from a DHCP server, then make a note of the IP address range of the subnet where the appliance is connected. 3. Power up your TaskSmart W2200 appliance server. Wait 5 minutes for the appliance to completely start. You will hear a melodic string of notes when the appliance is fully powered up. CAUTION: Powering down the appliance without proper shutdown can damage the operating system. If damage occurs, use the Quick Restore CD to restore factory default configuration. IMPORTANT: If the appliance server and the client workstation are not on the same subnet, and the firewall is in the path between the different subnets, then the firewall must allow traffic on IP ports 80, 2301, and 3201. The appliance will receive a temporary IP address from the DHCP server. The temporary IP address is used to access the appliance from your Web browser, from where you give it a permanent IP address. 4. Insert the Compaq TaskSmart Configuration Utility (TCU) CD into a Windows client workstation. The utility automatically starts. If it does not automatically start, run d:/setup.exe where d: is the letter of your CD drive. The utility automatically begins searching the local subnet for the appliance.
