Gray scale (also called monochrome or continuous tone) This is the setting for black and white photographs and drawings with various shades of gray in addition to black and white. You can also use this setting for color photographs that will be printed in black and white. Color This is the setting for color photographs or other originals in color. (Your software may have several color settings. Use 24-bit RGB, three-pass, and/or page-sequence mode or equivalent settings.) Note: Scans from photographs are better than scans from printed images, such as newspaper or magazine pictures, because of halftoning conflicts. Use photographs instead of the color images in the Color Image Scanner booklet for experimenting with your scanner. d Resolution The best resolution setting depends on the image type or mode (line art, gray scale, or color) and the printing method.
