Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 48). 5. Remove the service door (see Service door on page 49). Remove the palm rest on 39.6-cm (15.6-in) computers: 1. Position the computer right side up with the display open. 2. Pull up (1) on the top edge of the palm rest nearest the keyboard. Before removing the palm rest, follow these steps:

(15.6-in) computers:
1.
Position the computer right side up with the display open.
2.
Pull up
(1)
on the top edge of the palm rest nearest the keyboard. With the palm rest at an angle,
slide the unit
(2)
to release the latches at its base.
