Installation 2.3 Install and Validate the HP SAM Client Software HP SAM has Windows XP Embedded-based and Windows CE 5.0-based clients plus an Microsoft Internet Explorer-based version of the HP SAM client. The Windows XP Embedded-based client also works on Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. The HP SAM client requires that Remote Desktop Connection be functional on the client access device. There are differences in features between the HP SAM Internet Explorer-based client and the other HP SAM clients. To use the HP SAM Internet Explorer-based client, enter the server name (http://HPSAMservername) in the Internet Explorer address bar. If the access device is accessing the HP SAM server for the first time, the client needs to install two ActiveX controls (HP SAM Time Zone Download Control and Remote Desktop Client Control.) The installed location for these controls are in %SystemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files\ folder. There are other HP SAM Internet Explorer-based client configuration settings that you can control from the HP SAM server.
