1 Why Upgrade? How Many Storage The number of storage devices that you can add to your computer is determined by the number of shelves available. Devices Can I Add? Note The on-system board electronics support up to six devices (two FDD (Flexible Disk Drive) devices and four IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) devices). You can install a non-IDE device such as a SCSI drive but you will need to install an interface card and software for it. In addition to the 3.5-inch floppy disk drive and the CD-ROM drive, your computer has two front-access device shelves available for new drives. Note that with some models one of these shelves will be already occupied by a tape drive. For instructions on how to add a storage device, refer to "Installing Storage Devices" on page 43. 16
