3 HP ProCurve 2800 Series The HP ProCurve 2824 and HP ProCurve 2848 are used in HP Cluster Platform solutions. The ProCurve 2824 has twenty 10/100/1000 ports and four dual-personality ports for 10/100/1000 or mini-GBIC connectivity. The ProCurve 2848 has forty four 10/100/1000 ports and four dual-personality ports for 10/100/1000 or mini-GBIC connectivity. The HP ProCurve 2800 series is used for multiple roles in HP Cluster Platform solutions. They are used as system interconnects and can also be used to control the console network or the administration network. This chapter presents the following information relating to the HP ProCurve 2824, and the HP ProCurve 2848 switches: • An overview of the HP ProCurve 2824 (Section 3.1). • An overview of the HP ProCurve 2848 (Section 3.2). • A description of the LEDs and buttons found on the HP ProCurve 2824 and HP ProCurve 2848 switches (Section 3.1.1). 3.1 HP ProCurve 2824 Overview The HP ProCurve 2824 is a multi-port Gigabit switch that can be connected to an external redundant power supply (RPS) unit. Characteristics of the HP ProCurve 2824 include the following: • 24 auto-sensing 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports • Dual-personality ports - 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports or mini-GBIC slots for optional fiber-optic connectivity such as Gigabit-SX, -LX, or -LH • Plug-and-play networking • Automatic learning of the network addresses • Support for the Spanning Tree Protocol to eliminate network loops • 48 Gbps backplane with up to 35.7 mpps • Stacking capability: single IP address management for a virtual stack of up to 16 switches • Port security to prevent unauthorized access using MAC address lockdown 3.1.1 HP ProCurve 2824 Front View Figure 3-1 shows the front view of the ProCurve 2824.
