Figure 5-2 ProCurve 5308 xl Rear View (with redundant power supply) 2 1 Item Description 1 AC power source 2 Redundant power supply The rear of the switch also has a slot for installing an optional redundant power supply. To provide true redundancy, the second power supply should be connected to a different AC power source from the other supply. Then, if one AC power source fails, the switch will continue to run. Because the switch can run on a single supply, removing a redundant supply will not interrupt switch operation. Note: The redundant power supply is hot swappable, but, as indicated by the caution statement on the power supply, it must be disconnected from AC power before being installed or removed. 5.1.3 Self Test When the switch is powered on, it performs a diagnostic self test. The entire download, initialization, and self test process can take up to 2 minutes for a fully loaded chassis, depending on the number and type of modules installed in the switch. 5.1 ProCurve 5308xl Features 37
