Hard drive NOTE: The hard drive spare part kit does not include the hard drive bracket or hard drive connector cable. These components are included in the Hard Drive Hardware Kit, spare part number 718432-001. Description 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm 750-GB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm 500-GB, 5400-rpm, 9.5- and 7.0-mm Spare part number 676521-001 634250-001 683802-001 Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer. 3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 30). Remove the hard drive: 1. Loosen the Phillips PM2.5×4.5 captive screw (1) that secures the hard drive service cover to the computer. 2. Lift the rear edge of the hard drive service cover (2) and swing it up and forward until it disengages from the computer. 3. Remove the hard drive service cover. The hard drive service cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 718432-001. 4. Disconnect the hard drive connector cable (1) from the system board. Component replacement procedures 31
