Ethernet network with broadband Internet access provided by a router The printer is connected to a router that acts as a gateway between the user network and the Internet. The full feature set of the printer, including sharing photos over the Internet, is available without even having a computer available or connected to the network. This is the ideal network configuration. Connecting the printer to the network To connect the printer to a wired network, you need the following: ● A network access point such as a hub, router, or switch with an open port ● A CAT-5 ethernet cable with RJ-45 plug ● Broadband Internet access (only if you want to access HP Instant Share directly from the device. For more information, see Getting connected). Note 1 You should not connect the printer directly to a computer using an ethernet cable. Peer-to-peer networking is not supported. Note 2 After you connect the printer to the network as described in this section, you must install the printer software. See Installing the printer software on a Windows computer or Installing the printer software on a Macintosh. To connect the printer to the network 1.
