Top cover Description Top cover For use with 33.8-cm (13.3-in) displays For use with 35.6-cm (14.0-in) displays Spare part number 599569-001 599570-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 49). 5. Remove the following components: a. Switch cover (see Switch cover on page 51) b. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 53) c. Speakers (see Speakers on page 60) d. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 57) e. Palm rest (see Palm rest on page 64) Remove the top cover: 1. Position the computer right-side up with the front toward you. 2. Remove the 14 T8 slotted-Torx 2.5×5.0 screws (1) and the 3 PM2.0×3.0 screws (2) that secure the top cover to the base enclosure. Component replacement procedures 89

Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.

3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet

Remove the top cover:
1.
Position the computer right-side up with the front toward you.
2.
Remove the 14 T8 slotted-Torx 2.5×5.0 screws
(1)
and the 3 PM2.0×3.0 screws
(2)
that secure
the top cover to the base enclosure.
